Symmetry

In class we have been exploring symmetry.
We can play these games at home too.
Start with pictures and build up to patterns and letters.
Well done for giving these games a try.

Calendar challenge

On the back, as you can see, there is a wheel with the order of the animals in the Chinese calendar.
Each month is decorated with an animal.
Well done, this is the first calendar in.

Well done. The months are in the correct order.

With this calendar the 4 seasons are shown. Can you name them?

With this calendar ****** can cross out each day as we go along.
So far, we are 5 days into the New Year.
Each page has a photograph to celebrate each month. Can you guess what might be on the page for February?

Special family days are marked on this calendar.
**** will not forget any this year.

This calendar was made in a scrapbook style.
It has drawings and cut outs illustrating the various months.
Special days are also marked.
Can you guess where the family went on holidays last year?

This calendar is free standing.
Days can be marked off with a sticker.
It is another calendar illustrated with photographs to show the different months of the year.
What months are shown here?

This Little Bear has written the numbers to the 366 days of the year!
Mummy helped her hold the ruler while she drew the lines.
Each day has its own box and number. The names of the months are written at the top of each page.
Can you guess what day she brought the calendar to school on?
Fantastic work Little Bear!

A treat for all these Calendar makers.

One more calendar. Look at how many events and birthdays in May.
Wonder how many more birthdays we could pencil in.

Yet another calendar. In this calendar, the months were decorated with phtographs and drawings.

Pyjama day

Reception Bears raised over 130 euros to sponsor foster families and children's homes for children who cannot live with their own family.
Pyjama day is a fun day at school to help celebrate children's right to live in a home with a family.
We wore our pyjamas to school and got ready for bed.

Before going to bed we got a little something
ready to eat with a warm cup of milk.
We went up to the kitchen and made some pumpkin jam tarts.

Yum, they were delicious.
Now before going to bed we need to brush our teeth.
Up and down, up and down and all the way around.

We tried to get to sleep...

but that did not really work. So we decided to count sheep.

We counted all the way to 100.
We sorted the numbers in tens
and then ordered the units.
Excitement was certainly in the air and
jumping on the bed is always fun.
Follow this jump video and jump like us.
Talking of videos. We viewed a couple of episodes of
Bananas in Pyjamas

Bananas in pyjamas, what a wonderful idea!
Bananas coated in chocolate and dipped
in hundreds and thousands.

If after all this the little children in pyjamas were not tired,
the teachers in pyjamas certainly were.

World Origami Day

Today we celebrated origami day by folding origami fish.

We will also learn how to fold a crane.
The same paper bird Sadako, a WWII victim folded, wishing for good health and world peace.

In many places around the world children and adults fold thousands of cranes and place them in Sadako's honour
and her wish for world peace.
If you would like to encourage your child to continue to fold,
you can use:

What a group of little children can do with a Pumpkin?

Rodrigo's family provided Reception Bears
with a massive pumpkin.

We chopped the pumpkin and weighed it on a balance against the sugar to make some pumpkin jam.
It was fun to see the balance tip, showing if there was enough pumpkin or not, and if sugar and pumpkin were even in weight.

We also took some pumpkin to the school cook
and she made some delicious soup with it.

We hope everyone can enjoy some pumpkin jam
on some delicious toast over half term.

Reception Bears enjoyed the story of Winnie's Amazing Pumpkin

You can enjoy more of Valerie Tomas' stories here

Teddy Bears Picnic

If you go out in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today, you'd better go in disguise;
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.
If you go down in the woods today, you better not go alone.
It's lovely down in the woods today, but safer to stay at home;
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Picnic time for Teddy Bears
The little Teddy Bears are having a lovely time today

Watch them, catch them unawares and see them picnic on their holiday.
See them gaily gad about.

They love to play and shout.

They never have any cares.

At six o'clock their Mummies and Daddies will take them back home to bed

Because they're tired little Teddy Bears.

These are some of the messages written by the children
to remind parents to allow a Teddy Bear to school.

We washed our fruit and made some honey sandwiches.

Walking down was so exciting.
The children walked down in pairs, each one holding onto their Teddy Bear.
They also went in disguise to catch the bears unaware.

We played some games down in the 'woods.'

This was a piggy back race.

Then, what a surprise!
We caught some Teddy Bears having a picnic!

When we were going up, we were some tired little Bears.

We have played this game in class. You may wish to play it at home going beyond counting to 10 when your child is confident and accurate with 5 and then 10.

Chocolate is always a good excuse for a Maths lesson

Reception Bears sorted Smarties by colour

They drew rings around each set and labled them

Finally they ate the smarties,
what a lovely treat after all that counting and labeling
